The final Sunday in the series, Knowing God, focuses on our source for Knowing God: The Bible.
We accept and believe that the Bible is true. In fact, take a look at our Doctrinal Statement:
Doctrinal Statement on the Bible:
We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.
But what do we do with the difficult, yet “true” statements from the Bible?
The answer is we must interpret them correctly through the filter of the life and teachings of Jesus. This can be daunting task that followers of Jesus must be willing to tackle.
Here are some resources to help you in your study of God’s Word:
Study Bibles — Pick the translation you like; Go to the store and look through them to see which one you like best. A little over a year ago, I switched from the NIV Life Application to the ESV Study Bible, and I really like it.
Bible.org — A great resource and starting point anytime you want to learn a bit more about a topic or passage of scripture.
