This message is the final one in the series on the letters to the seven churches of Revelation. These letters were dictated by Jesus to the Apostle John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. In this letter to the church in Laodicea, Jesus had nothing good to say to about their actions. In fact, he used the town’s distasteful drinking water to describe his feelings about this church…lukewarm. The Laodicean church was wealthy and had a self-sufficient and apathetic attitude towards their faith and it made Jesus sick to his stomach!
The message of this letter is one every materially blessed church and Christian needs to heed…don’t allow your riches to come between you and Jesus. Instead, be grateful for the blessings God has given you and be generous with those blessings.
