Intentional Parenting

Intentional Parenting

This Sunday we wrapped up our Family By Design series by discussing Intentional Parenting. As we looked at Deuteronomy 6 we discovered that the battle for the hearts of our children begin with battle for the hearts of their parents. It is up to parents to move beyond simply being PRESENT, or even ENGAGED, to become INTENTIONAL in our parenting.

This year River Oaks is committed to helping our parents be INTENTIONAL. Through many new programs and several new outlets, we are coming alongside parents to help them become better equipped and receive encouragement in their parenting:

  • Midweek (Starts Sept. 9 6:30-8pm)
    • Pre-K through 5th grade children will rotate through several high-energy, high-impact environments including worship, large group, and small group environments all designed to connect children to Jesus in a fun and relevant way. Infants through 2-year-olds will enjoy secure, high-quality childcare.
    • 6th-8th grade students will move closer to Jesus Christ, while connecting with friends and caring adults in our Middle School programming. High-energy games, teaching, and age-specific small groups will give students a place of belonging and purpose.
    • Parents will have two different learning tracks. One track will always have a discipleship focus. The other track will always have a marriage and family focus.
  • Milestone Moments
    • These events are geared toward parents who have children within a specific age bracket. These regular events will take place on Sunday mornings and provide parents with information about the developmental stage their children are in and their current needs. Each event will also equip parents to lead their children through a specific, naturally-occurring milestone.
  • FX: A Family Worship Xperience
    • These one-night events will occasionally take the place of our regular midweek programming. These events are high-energy, family focused times of worship and learning. The music will be turned up, the lights brought down, dancing is encouraged, and family involvement is a must. Families will learn together through hilarious skits, interactive games, and engaging story telling. Your family won’t want to miss these events. The first one takes place Wednesday, October 14. Mark your calendar!
  • The Parent Cue App
    • This app is designed for our Elementary parents and supports what your children are learning on Sunday mornings during our brand new large group/small group environments. This app for Apple or Android provides parents with weekly DriveTime activities, MealTime discussions, BedTime stories, and HangTime activities. It also provides parents with a recap of what their kids learned that week, provides a library of helpful articles and resources, a podcast designed just for parents, and more! I promise this app will be worth every penny of the $1.99 download fee.
  • Monthly Online Parenting Workshops
    • These workshops will be communicated to you in the form of two emails and one video. Each month they tackle a different parenting topic with three separate workshops designed specifically for pre-school, elementary, and middle/high school parents. Examples of workshops include:
      • Understanding Your Pre-Schooler’s Fears
      • Keeping Your Elementary Child Safe Online
      • Opening Lines of Communication with your Middle/High Schooler
  • A Commitment to Equipping Parents
    • We are committed to equipping our parents to Intentionally lead their children toward Jesus. We promise to keep a steady stream of helpful resources such as articles and book reviews at your finger tips. Little nuggets of encouragement and practical information that you can actually use! Make sure you don’t miss out on anything by bookmarking our website and following us on social media.

Let’s commit today that we will all strive to be better parents tomorrow, because our kids deserve it.
