A couple of the saddest verses in the entire Bible are found in Judges 2:10-11, which say…
After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors,
another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.
Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.
An entire generation of parents failed to pass on their faith to the next generation even though God had given them specific instruction on how to do this in Deuteronomy 6. So why didn’t they pass on their faith? I think there are three reasons we really need to consider, so we don’t make the same mistake.
Because talking about God and faith wasn’t a normal part of their lives
Because they didn’t have Godly mentors in their lives
Because they didn’t have a faith that mattered to pass on
Parents are on the front lines when it comes to impacting the next generation, but this responsibility truly belongs to all followers of Jesus.
By the way, here are a couple books I’d specifically recommend for parents.
