The story of Philip encountering the Ethiopian in Acts 8:26-38 is an encouraging reminder that some people we meet are truly ready to commit their lives to Christ! For that happy ending, Philip needed to be sensitive to the ‘whisper’ of God and prepared to guide the Ethiopian to faith.
The challenge of this encounter is to be sensitive to the voice of God, to respond to it and to prepare ourselves for potential discussions of faith.
To that end:
Pray each day for God to use you and be sensitive to his ‘whisper’. If you are interested in reading an excellent book on how to be sensitive to God’s promptings, I suggest reading Bill Hybels’ book, “The Power of a Whisper”.
Prepare yourself to engage people in discussions of faith. We are here to help. On Wednesday evening, October 22 we will be offering Sunday +, a one-night instructional course on how to engage people who need a personal relationship with Jesus. This event will include a lecture and a panel to respond to your questions. Register here, childcare will be provided.
Additionally, if you have made a commitment to trust Christ as your Savior but have not yet been baptized, I urge you to do what the Ethiopian did immediately after his conversion, he was baptized! Our next baptismal service is just a few days away, on Sunday, October 19 during both services! Register here and plan to attend the Baptism Class on Wednesday, October 15 at 6pm.
