Wisdom: Pride & Humility

Wisdom: Pride & Humility

This past weekend at River Oaks we wrapped up our summer series in Proverbs by looking at the topic of pride and humility. Although pride isn’t a hot topic like sex or alcohol consumption (the previous 2 weeks’ topics) it is just as serious, if not more serious of a topic. The reason? Because God HATES pride (Proverbs 16:5, 6:16-17). Pride is a stepping stone to all sorts of other sins. However, the antidote to pride is humility. Proverbs closely links a humble life to honor (Proverbs 15:33, 18:22, 22:4, 29:23). Practicing humility also leads to obedience and it isn’t until we follow the example of Jesus and humble ourselves in obedience to our Heavenly Father that we will see powerful kingdom work done in our lives and those around us.
