Doug and Rene’ Dyksen
Campus Crusade for Christ at Indiana University/Bloomington

Doug and Rene’ joined Campus Crusade’s full time staff in January 2006 and arrived at Indiana University in December 2006. Just recently the Campus Crusade for Christ changed their name to Cru. They feel the name continues to takes on all the great benefits of the ministry, while removing some of the barriers that the word “crusade” brought. Their objective mission movement over the past five years remains the same. They are committed to Introduce and WIN students to Jesus Christ, BUILD believers up in their faith, and SEND graduates into a lost and hurting world to reach out others and introduce other to Christ.

Doug spends 75% of the week on campus and 25% of the week working in his regional role of the Berlin Germany Partnership Coordinator. His campus time is spent connecting with the men that he personally mentors or disciples and with meeting new students in evangelism or follow-up appointments.

He has the opportunity to disciple 8 upperclassmen (6 seniors and 2 juniors). Three of these men lead small group Bible studies and 5 of these men disciple younger students. He loves the time that he gets to spend with these men talking about God’s Word and how it applies to their lives; diving into their lives, challenging them in their walks with Jesus, and training them in ministry skills. This is where he gets to live out the words of Paul in 2 Timothy 2:2: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

He also leads these men in small group Bible study. Currently they’re studying the book of Jonah and trusting God together to grow them into a community of Christ followers who are willing to go deep with each other in regards to their hurts, sin, and personal trials.

In the Berlin Germany Partnership coordinator role, he has the privilege of helping to coach the Stint team (a team of recent graduates that have chosen to intern with CRU overseas seeking to build a spiritual movement among the university students at their location) in Berlin. Doug has a weekly phone call with the Stint team leader (Matt) in which they discuss the team’s spiritual health, ministry, and any issues that come up. He also has the opportunity to cast vision and challenge students in their region to serve overseas for a year or two of their life. This can happen through email, one-on-one conversations over the phone or face-to-face, and at the regional conference events.
Congratulations to Doug and Rene’ for recently celebrated 10 years of marriage on Aug 4th .

Doug and Rene’ returned back to Indiana after a summer full of leadership development in Colorado. They valued the personal coaching they received to process all the information they learned. The coaches helped to create personal development plans Doug and Rene’ are able to take back to the university. Doug and Rene’ are thankful for the opportunity and pray the Lord would lead them to bring change in their own lives, home and their ministry. Afterward, they attended the bi-annual staff conference with 5000 other US staff. God used speakers to challenge them from the Word, to live lives of absolute surrender before God and in full dependence on the Holy Spirit. The ministry celebrated their 60th anniversary! Doug and Rene’ were amazed by the stories and realize how privileged we are to be a part of an incredible legacy which God has created and will complete someday.

Over the summer of 2011, 30 students and 6 staff were in Berlin for Summer Project. The students were able to initiate conversations with 594 students…had spiritual conversation with 241 students and were able to share the gospel with 141 students. The project shared with students from 50 different countries. They pray for multiple opportunities to meet with other students and build relationships centered on discussion around the gospel and spiritual matters. They praise the Lord for continuing to open the door for the Gospel to take root in the lives of German students! Each trip they take they are meeting more and more interested students who want to talk about the Lord and the Gospel.

New school year began August 29th the first 6 weeks focus on offering student the opportunity to have a fresh start in their relationship with God. For many they have yet to understand what it means to know and accept Christ.
