“I Stand Amazed” – Easter Sunday 2011

“I Stand Amazed” – Easter Sunday 2011

What a great resurrection morning!  We, as a worship team, feel so honored to be able to share this message through music.  Thanks to all of you who attended one of our three services.

Kim Kaser began the services with the song “He Is Lord”. Tim Rowland welcomed the congregation and read the account of the resurrection from the book of Matthew.

The next piece, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today”, featured our string section (violin: Julie Bergdall, Cello: Tyler Springer, acoustic bass: Jordan Swartzendruber) and myself on Marimba.  I wrote this arrangement 18 years ago (yikes). Every year I would contemplate playing it, but always “chickened out”!  This year, since having our own “string trio”, we gave it a go!  It was a fun, and challenging piece to play.

The next piece featured drums, video and spoken word.  Our drummer, Matt Campagnoli, constructed a “drums only” piece interacting with the video (titled “Resurrection”) and the spoken words of  artist Amena Brown. Very cool!

It was time to get the congregation involved in the celebration! Together we all  sang “Let God Arise” (sung/led by guitarist/vocalist Rich Trowbridge) and “Arise”.

Next was a video featuring the “amazing” testimonies of Tony Dungy and Lovey Smith.  Together, we then sang Fee’s “All Because of Jesus” (which was the theme throughout Dungy’s and Smith’s testimonies).

Our next video featured the testimony of Billy Graham, told by his son, and some vintage 1950’s film footage.  Again, keeping with the theme of the video, Lindsay Harris sang Addison Road’s “This Little Light of Mine”. Sweet vocal, Lindsay! Together we then sang “Mighty To Save”, with the lyric “shine your light and let the whole world see we’re singing for the glory of the risen King“.  Amen!

Our next video feature music icon Johnny Cash, talking about his faith and devotion to Christ. I love Johnny, so this was fun for me to find a Cash song to go with this theme.  We did the title song from Johnny Cash’s final album (recorded shortly before his death) “Ain’t No Grave”.  Luke Kawahi sang this one from the heart! We accompanied him with acoustic instruments.  And yes, look closely, Matt was playing “chains”!

“Stay Amazed” was sung by our female vocalists: Lindsay Harris, Jenny Beers and Kim Kaser. Awesome harmonies on the chorus, ladies!

Following a powerful video testimony by staff person Rick Woody, Tim Rowland spent the next few minutes speaking on how the cross and the resurrection clearly illustrate God’s love for us. He straightforwardly presented the Gospel and gave an invitation to accept Christ.

Musically, we followed with the song “Amazed”, originally recorded by Lincoln Brewster.  To close our time together, we (with the congregation) stood and sang “I Stand Amazed”.  A very powerful moment as we stood in awe of God’s love for us!

I can’t thank all of our musicians, vocalists, techs (video production: Rick Woody, tech director/lights: Tim Blaum, computer/screens: Bruce Zimmerman & Ashley Swartzendruber, camera: Dave Grove) enough for the time and dedication they put towards this event. Also, thanks to Bryan Chris Photography for the stellar pics!

We all came together for one purpose: To Glorify God and His Risen Son”! Thank you, River Oaks,  for passionately worshiping with us!
